Why Your eBay Listings Get No Views: A 6-Point Diagnostic for Sellers

Your listings are live, your prices are fair, but the views are near zero and sales are not coming. Before you blame the product, run this diagnostic — in most cases the problem is visibility, not demand, and each cause below has a concrete fix.

Check 1: Are you below standard? (the silent killer)

eBay does not always tell you when it stops showing your listings. Open Seller Hub → Performance → Seller Level. If you are "Below Standard," eBay suppresses your listings in search results with no warning message. Fix the metrics (late dispatch and tracking upload are the usual culprits), and visibility returns as your level recovers.

Check 2: Your titles are wasting 80 characters

eBay gives you 80 characters in every title and search matches words, not meaning. "Nice blue shirt" is invisible; "Men's Blue Cotton Casual Shirt Size M – Next" is findable. Put the words buyers actually type: brand, product type, size, colour, key feature. Check eBay's search bar autocomplete for what real buyers enter.

Check 3: Wrong category = wrong shoppers

A phone case listed under "Mobile Accessories" instead of the exact model category will never meet its buyers. Search eBay for your product, open the top-selling listings, and copy their category path exactly.

Check 4: No item specifics filled in

Item specifics (brand, size, material, MPN) are how eBay's filters work. Listings with empty specifics do not appear when buyers filter results — which most buyers do. Fill in every applicable field; it takes two minutes per listing.

Check 5: Your prices lost the shipping math

On eBay UK, listings with free or reasonable postage outsell identical items with inflated shipping. Buyers sort by "Price + P&P lowest." If your postage pushes the total above competitors, you are invisible on the default sort.

Check 6: Zero feedback on a new account

Buyers filter out zero-feedback sellers, and eBay's algorithm promotes trusted ones. If you are new, sell a few low-risk items fast (even at thin margin) to build feedback — visibility compounds once the first 10–20 positives land.

Frequently asked questions

How long before a new listing appears in search?

Usually within hours. If a listing has zero impressions after 48 hours, something above is wrong — start with the seller-level check.

Do promoted listings fix visibility problems?

They amplify visibility; they do not create it. A below-standard account or miscategorised listing will still underperform even when promoted. Fix the fundamentals first.

Should I end and relist stale listings?

Refreshing a stale listing can help, but only after fixing the underlying issue (title, category, specifics). Relisting the same weak listing changes nothing.
