eBay is updating its privacy policy globally on November 26, 2026, adding detailed disclosures about automated monitoring of listings and user content, AI training on customer data, and automated decisions that could affect seller accounts. The company announced the changes in an email to users on October 19.
The new policy explicitly says automated systems may review listings, images, videos, livestreams, comments, transcripts and other user content to detect violations of eBay rules. It also allows eBay to limit the information it shares about its detection and enforcement systems. Notably, the update removes the explicit commitment to notify registered users directly about future material privacy changes.
On AI, eBay says it may use seller listings, product descriptions, images, item attributes, marketplace activity and feedback to train and improve generative AI models. An opt-out setting remains available, but it is described as intended for users in the EEA, UK and Switzerland. Similar revisions apply to the UK, Australia and Canada versions of the policy, all effective November 26. The Australian version additionally spells out that automated processing could lead to account suspension, restriction or financial controls. Sellers should review the updated policy before it takes effect.
