OnePlus 16 Launched in China: 9,000mAh Battery, 200MP Camera, but No US or Europe Release

OnePlus 16 arrives with the biggest battery ever in a flagship phone

OnePlus has launched its new flagship phone, the OnePlus 16, in China. The company revealed the phone on October 12 at its 2026 gaming conference in China. It is the successor to the OnePlus 15, and it is aimed squarely at gamers and heavy users.

The new phone brings a record-size battery, a super-fast screen and one of the most powerful chips in any phone today. It is available to order in China now, with open sales rolling out through October.

A 9,000mAh battery leads the specs

The biggest talking point is the battery. The OnePlus 16 has a 9,000mAh silicon-carbon battery. That is much bigger than the 7,300mAh battery in last year’s OnePlus 15, and one of the largest batteries ever fitted in a flagship phone.

It charges at 100W with a cable and 50W wirelessly. Fast charging means the big battery can still fill up quickly, though the company has not given an exact charging time yet.

New 2nm chip and a 185Hz screen for gamers

The phone runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. It is the first mobile chip built on a 2nm process, which means more power with less heat. OnePlus is pitching the phone as a gaming device, with custom chips for the display, touch and network to cut lag during play.

The screen is a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel. It runs at 165Hz for normal use and can go up to 185Hz in supported games — among the fastest displays on any phone. Memory options go up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

200MP camera with triple-lens setup

For photos, the OnePlus 16 has a triple camera on the back. The main camera is a 200MP sensor, joined by a 50MP ultra-wide camera and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 3x zoom. There is also a 50MP front camera for selfies and video calls.

OnePlus has also kept the alert slider and given the phone an IP69K rating for dust and water resistance.

Price: CNY 5,999 in China

In China, the OnePlus 16 starts at CNY 5,999, about US$892, for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model. Higher versions cost CNY 6,799, CNY 7,499 and CNY 8,499 as RAM and storage rise.

That starting price is a big jump — about 50 percent higher than the CNY 3,999 starting price of the OnePlus 15. Reports say the increase comes from the cost of the new chip and the chip and memory shortage that pushed up component prices across the industry in 2026.

The phone comes in three colours: Dark Forest, Martian Masterpiece and Tomorrow Starlight. The Martian Masterpiece version uses a lighter glass-fibre back.

No official release for the US and Europe

Here is the catch for many buyers. OnePlus has decided to stop rolling out new products in North America and Europe. So there will be no official OnePlus 16 launch in the US, UK or Europe. Buyers there can only get the phone through importers that bring in Chinese-market units.

That also means no official warranty, no carrier deals and no retail support in those markets. OnePlus says existing phones in those regions will keep getting software updates and after-sales support, but the OnePlus 16 itself will not arrive through official channels.

An India launch is still unconfirmed. Some reports say OnePlus may bring a cheaper OnePlus 16R model to India, while the full OnePlus 16 could arrive in early 2027 — but the company has made no announcement.

What buyers outside China should keep in mind

Anyone planning to import the OnePlus 16 should know the trade-offs. Imported Chinese phones may not support all local 4G and 5G bands, and the software may arrive with Chinese apps rather than the usual Google setup. Prices on third-party marketplaces will also be higher than the China retail price, since importers add shipping, taxes and their own margin.

The safest option for most buyers is to wait for official word on a local launch, or buy through a trusted importer that offers its own warranty on the unit.

What’s next

Whether OnePlus changes its mind about Western markets remains to be seen, but for now the company is keeping its newest flagship as a China-first product. For phone fans, the OnePlus 16 sets a new benchmark for battery size and screen speed in 2026 — and a reminder that the best hardware does not always reach every market.
