Here is the latest digest of the day’s top world stories, covering breaking geopolitical developments and a quick market snapshot.
North Korea test-fires intermediate-range ballistic missile
North Korea test-fired an intermediate-range ballistic missile on Saturday morning from Wonsan, at around 6:30 AM local time. The missile flew more than 700 kilometers and landed outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone. Kim Yo Jong stated that Kim Jong Un personally supervised the test, claiming the missile has maneuverable capabilities — reportedly including AI-assisted systems — designed to evade missile defenses. In response, South Korea convened an emergency National Security Council meeting and raised its monitoring posture in coordination with the United States and Japan. The launch comes amid fresh tension, with Seoul claiming that North Korean mines planted on September 21 injured three South Korean soldiers in the DMZ — a claim Pyongyang denies. Pakistan–India diplomatic tit-for-tat over border incidents
Pakistan summoned India’s Chargé d’Affaires on Saturday to lodge a strong protest over the killing of two Pakistani civilians by India’s Border Security Force in the Bedian Sector near Kasur on Friday, demanding a transparent investigation. New Delhi rejected Pakistan’s claim as “baseless” and, the same evening, summoned Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires over an alleged cross-border infiltration attempt in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector, where three intruders were reportedly spotted near the border fence. The exchange marks a fresh diplomatic flare-up between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. (Sources: Express Tribune, The Hindu, Indian Express)
